Greeniacs Invent

The best ideas come from the most unlikely sources. There is no end to the problems we face in this world – oil spills, pollution, over-population, hunger, poverty and corporate greed just to name a few biggies. But there are plenty of small, everyday problems that need solutions too. Do you see a problem that needs a solution? Tell us about it and maybe we can solve it together.

      Jennifer,

I coined the term “greeniac” about 5 years ago. I was thinking about how intelligent and clever “greenies” can be in their struggle to save the planet.

When ENIAC, the first reprogrammable computer, was announced in 1946 it was heralded in the press as a “Giant Brain”. This spawned the fictional character “Brainiac” that appeared in DC Comics in the late 1950’s. It was a combination of the words “brain” and “maniac”. When it worked its way into the vernacular, the term “brainiac” came to be applied to anyone who was a genius.

I came up with “greeniac” to describe the green geniuses who invent products and processes that make the world a better place.

Apparently you and I were thinking separately along the same lines. Great minds think alike.
