WHY DONKEYHORN?

As a resident of Main Street, my voice is constantly drowned out by the irrational railings of right-wing crackpots, teabaggers, republican politicians, and self-proclaimed know-it-all windbags like Limbaugh, Beck and Palin. I’m all in favor of free speech, but the words that spew from their mouths are divisive, hateful, and downright dangerous – the moral equivalent of yelling “FIRE” in a crowded theater. These people are NOT your friends. They are the friends of the wealthy and the greedy. They have hi-jacked truth, Christianity, the Constitution, and even America herself… twisting them into buzzwords that sound palettable but only serve to further their own evil agendas.

I’ve lost two of my best friends to the dark side. They don’t understand how I became such a “flaming liberal”. For the record, I have never flamed and I have never changed. I’ve always been a moderate-to-conservative Democrat because it’s the party of and for the people. I know how my friends became such venemous republicans. They both told me that if I want the truth, and if I want “fair-and-balanced”, I should listen to Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck. The poor guys’ minds have been poisoned by the right-wing hatespeech that masquerades as proper political punditry. Smoke came out of their ears when I responded that the only fair-and-balanced radio was on NPR. When I called Sarah Palin a dangerous moron, one friend said that I should readjust my fears and re-examine my allegiances. I say, why don’t YOU readjust? Why don’t YOU re-examine?

The truth of the matter is that they will never change. Their minds and ears are closed to any thoughts other than the ones that are spoon-fed to them by the hatemongers. I, on the other hand, am open to any suggestion that sounds feasible and brings us all closer to the center. It is only when we all meet in the middle that we can join hands and sing kumbayah around the American campfire.

So, I’m launching “DonkeyHorn” in an attempt to snatch the megaphone from the wrongful right and pass it around amongst you, the thoughtful left. I will rant when there’s a burr under my saddle, and I hope you will join in and do the same with your comments. But let’s all strive to keep it civil and constructive. What sticks in your craw and what is your creative solution?
