Romney Hood – Stay Out of My Hood!

August 13, 2012

Sucking the life out of the poor to benefit the wealthy is nothing new, but the republicans have elevated it to an art form. When legendary bank robber Willie Sutton was asked why he robbed banks, he said: “Because that’s where the money is.” Fictional character Robin Hood could have said the same thing if asked why he stole from the rich but he would have added that he wanted to give back to the poor some of what was taken from them. On the other hand, if you ask any right-wing crapitalist why they steal from the poor, the answer would be something like this: “Yes, we are already rich but that’s never enough. We won’t be satisfied until we have it all.”

For them, it’s less about the money than it is about the addiction to conquest, power and control. It’s about proving to themselves and everyone else that they are supreme beings that can never fail. When explorer George Mallory was asked: “Why do you want to climb Mt. Everest?” he retorted, “Because it is there”. That’s why Mitt Romney wants to move into the White House.

We all have the desire to be strong, prosperous and successful and there’s nothing wrong with that. For most of us, however, that desire is tempered by compassion for those less fortunate than ourselves. We know when enough is enough. This humanitarian gene is missing in the richest 1% so, for them, enough is never enough. It’s never enough for Mitt Romney. He has the money and now he want’s the power. He is the antithesis of Robin Hood and he has picked a running mate he thinks can help him attain it all. Romney Hood and Ryan Hood are determined to eviscerate the other 99% until the 1% has 100%.

The tragedy of all this is that half of the other 99% don’t have sense enough to know that they are about to become dinner for the insatiable 1%. They turn out in droves to rallies and cheer for the lies of Romney and Ryan – the very ones who are going to pick their bones (and their wallets) clean. These rallies are so reminiscent of the Nazi rallies in the 1930’s. In retrospect, we know what Hitler was all about but, at the time, his mind-controlling rhetoric brought the German people to their feet, cheering and chanting “Seig Heil” for the man who was about to plunge them into a world war to achieve his own nefarious goals. Some people have to learn the hard way that they’ve been duped. The republican voters may eventually learn… after it’s too late. We already have a Robin Hood in the White House. Do we really want to replace him with Romney Hood? I certainly don’t.
