Would You like 10 or 26 Weeks of Vacation?

August 8, 2012

So, last week Congress left Washington for their “August Recess”. It must be nice to make the big bucks doing absolutely nothing and then get such a long vacation. Maybe I’m being too hard on them. It must be very tiring for the republicans to rigidly stand their shaky ground and repeat the word “NO!” constantly. I know it’s difficult for the Democrats to put up with that day in and day out. Maybe their vacation isn’t long enough. We could put a big dent in the budget and accomplish just as much if they never came back.

I consulted the Congressional Schedule and found some interesting and appalling facts:
The August Recess for the House is 5 weeks long. The August Recess for the Senate, however, is 21 weeks long. They won’t be back until January of 2013. The August Recess is just one of 5 recesses. Both houses get a week off for President’s Day, 2 weeks off for Spring Break, 1 week off for Memorial Day, and 1 week off for Independence Day. They don’t work on weekends which account for 105 additional days off. All-in-all this year, the House is only scheduled to work 208 days and the Senate 130 days. What a gig!

When they do return from their current hiatus, things will be back to business as usual – which is no business at all. The 2012 election is just three months away so nothing will get done during that time. And, if the Democrats lose the majority in the Senate and don’t re-gain a majority in the House, the only legislative accomplishments in 2013 will be those that benefit the rich and drive the middle class further into poverty. It will be even worse if Twit Romney is elected President. With all three branches of government in the hands of the republicans, we may as well all move to Antarctica. I hear the weather is warm there most of the year nowadays.

Since 2010 when the Tea-party rats invaded the hallowed halls of the Capitol, the republicans have been pulled farther to the extreme right than ever before. Moderate republicans have become extinct along with the spirit of compromise that once made Congress function for the American people. It’s time to call the exterminator to rid government of the right-wing rats and prevent their black plague from spreading any further. While he’s at  it, it would be a good idea to eliminate the few extreme liberals on the far left. Moderation is the key to a healthy government and electing radicals on either end of the spectrum is counterproductive, and it’s one reason we’re in the mess we’re in.

Don’t you have any alien civilizations you are friends with, that could (very selectively) destroy human civilization?

I used to, but I’m unable to contact them. When I get my transponder repaired, I know which segments of human civilization I will have them destroy. Once I get rid of all of them, this will be a nice planet to live on.
