Plugging the XL Pipeline Was Right Decision

January 19, 2012

Yesterday, President Obama made the right decision to nix the XL Pipeline Project… at least for now. Thank you Mr. President!

As usual, republicans showed their greedy ignorance saying that he chose the environment over the economy. What’s wrong with that? Yes, the project could provide an unknown number of temporary jobs for welders and pipefitters, but the threat this pipeline poses to the environment could cost America billions (if not trillions) of dollars in the long run when the lives and livelihoods of millions of Americans are destroyed forever.

Republicans can only see the boon this will be to their benefactors – Big Oil. It should be obvious to any thinking person that this nasty tar sands oil, after being refined in Texas, will then be exported to the likes of China and India. That is the only reason for piping the oil to refineries along the Gulf Coast. If it were meant to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil, it would be refined in Montana and there would be no need for the pipeline.

Those who deny the probability of an environmental disaster from this pipeline have short memories. They are the same idiots who thought (and still think) that offshore drilling was perfectly safe. There is no way that this pipeline project, as it stands, is in our national interest!
