Our Time On Earth Is Getting Short

December 7, 2011

The world is supposed to end one year from now on 12-21-2012. At this writing we have 379 days left. Whether it actually happens or not, maybe it’s a good idea to start wrapping things up and preparing to meet our destiny… just in case.

With all the horrible things going on in the world right now, it sure seems like the end is near. Everywhere you look, disaster is looming. If the extreme weather events don’t do you in, the greedy capitalists and republican politicians will. If you survive war, disease, drought and famine, you might be crushed in an earthquake or washed away by a tsunami. The global economy is broke, civil society is in decline, the human population has overrun the planet like a virus and has worn it out like an old shoe. We are suffocating in our own waste.

We can spend this next year careening headlong toward the abyss, going about life with our usual blissful ignorance, or we can use the time we have left to try to stave off the end of life as we know it. We should treat this final year like the Apollo project putting all our human energy and economic resources into rectifying the damage we’ve done and developing renewable energy sources.

Maybe it’s already too late, but we should try. If we fail in this regard, or if a republican is elected president next November, there will be nothing left to do but bend over and kiss our big ol’ asses goodbye.

At least I’ll get another birthday in and will get two days of Medicare (if it’s still around).
