Pork-Happy Spending Cutters

August 2, 2011

The deal is done. The votes have been cast. Now Congress must put the debt ceiling bill on paper so the President can sign it… or not. I hope he reads the bill completely before signing it, because it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if the tea-baggers load the bill up with pork-barrel spending. It won’t be the first time these budget-cutters have acted contrary to their grassroots dictum. Republican freshmen recently packed a huge $553-billion spending bill with millions in pet projects for their home districts. To date, it looks like they have sought more than 760 earmarked spending projects valued at over $1-billion. It’s only “pork” if the democrats do it. If the far-right does it, it is disguised under the category of “job creation”.

All I’m saying is that we need to know what kind of pig crap ends up in this odious bill that no one is thrilled with. If it’s loaded up with pork, the president needs to point it out and exercise the line-item veto.

It’s a shame that people don’t get it about taxes. We’re paying less in taxes then sometime in the 50s, if I recall correctly, and even a slight tax hike could help enormously. But then, if the rich paid their fair share…

Oh, wait. I’d have to start this comment with “Once upon a time…”

Glad to see you have comments turned on!
