Michele Bachmann’s Migraines

July 25, 2011

I’ve never been accused of possessing an overabundance of political correctness, so some may say that it is sexist to point out that Michele Bachmann admits to suffering from debilitating migraine headaches. Migraines happen to be overwhelmingly a woman’s problem, and they are often linked to both menstruation and menopause — unavoidable biological side effects of being a woman. She tries to minimize the political damage by saying that they are due to shoes that are too tight, but those who have worked closely with her cite stress, a busy schedule, and anything going badly for Bachmann as causes.

Men suffer from migraines too, but in fewer numbers. Bachmann just happens to be a woman. Sometimes the headaches are so bad that she has to be hospitalized and she’s out of commission for up to three days. I think that, whether we’re talking about a male or female presidential candidate, this health condition should be seriously considered by voters. Do we want a commander-in-chief that could be frequently incapacitated and unable to deal with crucial problems due to the intense pain? The pain medication used to treat migraines can be powerful narcotics. Do we want a leader who is too stoned to cope for days at a time?

There are plenty of reasons Bachmann shouldn’t be president. Her headaches are just one more reason, but it is a serious one. They may explain why she’s such a bitch, but it’s probably more to do with the fact that she has the tea-party gene. When I have a normal headache, I just want to be left alone until it passes. If the pain is severe, my interpersonal skills might go out the window. This could be dangerous for Bachmann and for America if her pain caused her to say or do the wrong thing while on the global diplomatic stage. It should be pointed out that John Kennedy suffered from a painful back condition and took pain medication for it. This just shows that someone can be an effective president while dealing with pain, but Michele Bachman is NO John Kennedy.

I can’t imagine trying to make decisions of such major importance while having a migraine. I have had a few and actually wanted to die and from I hear mine aren’t as bad as most! They affect some people for a few days. There is no way you or anyone could do that kind of job like that. I would never vote for her now. She should do the right thing and take herself out of the race.
