SA’s Prick of the Week – Anthony’s Weiner

June 11, 2011

Another member of Congress has been exposed. Representative Anthony Weiner (D-NY) joined the rogues’ gallery of perverted politicians last week when he tweeted a photo of the bulge in his shorts to a 21-year-old female college student in Washington state. Weiner is married, his wife is pregnant, and he’s an elected representative of the people. All this makes his conduct reprehensible enough. But what gets me the most is the pathetic way he tried to weasel his way out of the situation.

When the lewd photo originally surfaced, he claimed that his account had been hacked and called it “an internet prank” . “We’re trying to get to the bottom of where the picture came from, and we’re trying to get to the bottom of what it’s of and who it’s of,” explained Weiner when asked about the matter. “We’re concerned about saying anything definitively. Pictures get manipulated, pictures get dropped into accounts. We’ve asked an internet security firm and a law firm to take a hard look at this to come up with a conclusion about what happened and to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

After expressing his frustration with reporters on Tuesday when asked to address the controversy, Weiner apologized early on Wednesday for having been “a little stiff” in his handling of the situation. “It was a big mistake I made yesterday when I said I was bound and determined not to let this become a story for four more days,” he reportedly said.

He finally admitted that the photo was of himself but has refused to relinquish his seat in congress despite the vitriol from his associates in congress and the American people, or the deprecating jabs permeating the internet and late night talk shows. My favorite was from Conan O’brien who said, “It turns out that one of the women Congressman Anthony Weiner was communicating with was a porn star. When asked how it was possible to get involved with someone in such a sleazy business, the porn star said, ‘I don’t know.'”

It’s a good thing smartphones didn’t exist when Bill Clinton was in office. Weiner, however, is not the teflon Don that Clinton was and it’s the height of hubris for him to attempt to retain his seat after the blatant lies and futile attempt to cover up his idiotic behavior. He should realize that he will face some stiff challenges if he doesn’t pull out. Sadly, his wife stands behind him, and more sadly, there is another Weiner on the way. His family must be so proud. Anthony should also be proud of himself for being named “SA’s Prick of the Week”. Maybe I should change the name to the “Weiner Award”.

So utterly stupid. If I heard right Bill Clinton officiated at their wedding ceremony! Well that was a good start.
