Viagra for Women???

July 17, 2010

Researchers believe they have uncovered a substance that boosts female sexual arousal, and chance of orgasm. The discovery could pave the way for a drug similar in effect to Viagra, which has helped countless men.

Flibanserin (proposed trade name Girosa) is a drug that is currently being investigated by Boehringer Ingelheim GmbH, a German pharmaceutical company, as a novel, non-hormonal treatment for pre-menopausal women with Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD). HSDD is an otherwise unexplained loss of sexual thoughts, fantasies and desire that can cause significant emotional distress.

Scientists found that Flibanserin, developed as an antidepressant, was ineffective for treatment of depression. But the drug appeared to produce an unexpected side effect: boosting women’s libido. That prompted the company to study it for HSDD,  Some research suggests 10 percent of women may suffer from the condition.

On June 18, 2010 a federal advisory panel to the FDA unanimously voted against recommending approval of Flibanserin. But that’s okay since all the hype surrounding the drug is much ado about nothing. There has been a substance around since the dawn of civilization that increases a woman’s desire for sexual activity. Its molecular formula is C2H5OH, otherwise known as Ethanol (common name – liquor). You don’t need a prescription and it is widely available at your nearest saloon. It’s much cheaper than a pharmaceutical and comes in a variety of flavors. Bottoms up!
